Cyclohexanol (cyclohexyl alcohol, CAS 108-93-0) is a saturated cyclic C₆ alcohol and one of the highest-volume organic intermediates in the chemical industry. Its principal destiny is the nylon chain — oxidation to adipic acid (nylon 6,6) and conversion via cyclohexanone to caprolactam (nylon 6) — while its high boiling point and strong solvency also make it a valuable solvent for coatings, lacquers, and degreasing, and a building block for plasticisers, rubber chemicals, and pharmaceutical synthesis.
