Heavy Alkyl Benzene (HAB, CAS 68855-24-3) is a long-chain (C₁₄–C₃₀) alkylbenzene — the heavy alkylate produced alongside detergent-range LAB. Valued for its high flash point, low pour point, good thermal and oxidative stability, and excellent solvency, it is mainly sulfonated to heavy alkylbenzene sulfonate (HABS) for lubricant additives and oilfield surfactants, and is also used directly as a base fluid for specialty oils. Royalchem supplies HAB in viscosity grades H1, H2, and H3, with customisation and technical support available.

Sulfonated to heavy alkylbenzene sulfonic acid and overbased calcium/magnesium sulfonates used as detergents, dispersants, and corrosion inhibitors in engine and industrial lubricant formulations.
After sulfonation, used as oil-displacing agents and surfactants in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and a range of oilfield chemical formulations.
A low-colour, high-flash base fluid or component for capacitor and transformer (dielectric) oils, refrigeration and compressor oils, metalworking fluids, plasticiser extenders, hydraulic fluids, and organic heat-transfer carriers.
Standard Packaging:
Bulk by ISO tank or flexitank, or in 170/180 kg drums. Customised grades and technical support available. Shelf life 24 months in original sealed packaging.
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from heat, ignition sources, and strong oxidising agents; keep containers tightly closed. The high-viscosity H3 grade may need gentle warming to pump and handle in cold conditions.
