Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB, CAS 67774-74-7) is the world's leading feedstock for linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS / LABSA), the biodegradable anionic surfactant at the heart of modern laundry and cleaning products. Its unbranched C₁₀–C₁₃ alkyl chain gives the derived surfactant high detergency together with the rapid aerobic biodegradation that replaced persistent branched alkylbenzene in the 1960s. Royalchem supplies high-linearity, detergent-grade LAB with ≥ 98.5% sulphonatability, available in bulk by ISO tank, flexitank, or drum.

Readily biodegradable under aerobic conditions (OECD 301D > 60% in 28 days) with a low aquatic-toxicity profile — the environmentally preferred alternative to branched alkylbenzene. A combustible liquid (flash point > 100 °C) but not classified as dangerous goods for transport. Low hazard under normal handling — use gloves and eye protection and avoid prolonged skin contact. Main Applications

Surfactant Manufacturing (LAS / LABSA)

The dominant use: sulfonated to linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid (LABSA) and its salts (LAS) — the primary surfactant in heavy-duty laundry powders and liquids, dishwashing concentrates, and industrial and household cleaners.

Industrial Processing

Used in textile auxiliary chemicals, leather processing agents, paper-industry applications, and metal and electroplating formulations where a stable linear hydrophobe is required.

Readily Biodegradable Hydrophobe

The unbranched chain biodegrades rapidly under aerobic conditions (OECD 301D > 60% in 28 days), making LAB-based surfactants the environmentally preferred, low-aquatic-toxicity choice over branched alkylbenzene.

Bulk by ISO tank or flexitank, or in 170/200 kg drums, for global supply. Shelf life 24 months in original sealed packaging under proper conditions.

Storage Conditions:

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, protected from direct sunlight and away from heat, ignition sources, and strong oxidising agents. Compatible with standard carbon-steel and stainless-steel handling equipment; keep dry.
