N-Ethyl-m-toluidine (MEMT, also known as N-ethyl-3-methylaniline or 3-(ethylamino)toluene, CAS 102-27-2, EC 203-019-4) is a secondary aromatic amine and a versatile intermediate, combining an m-tolyl ring with a reactive N-ethyl amino group. N-Ethyl-m-toluidine (MEMT, N-ethyl-3-methylaniline, CAS 102-27-2) is a secondary aromatic amine and a versatile intermediate, combining an m-tolyl ring with a reactive N-ethyl amino group. Its principal use is as a building block for dyes and pigments — azo, triarylmethane, and related colourants — with further uses across the rubber, photographic, and fine-chemical industries. A coupling and building component for azo, triarylmethane, and cyanine dyes used in textiles, leather, and printing inks; the N-ethyl and meta-methyl groups help tune shade, brightness, and substantivity.

Storage Conditions:

Store in tightly sealed containers in a cool, dry, dark, well-ventilated area, away from heat, ignition sources, oxidising agents, and acids; nitrogen blanketing is recommended, as this aromatic amine darkens on exposure to air and light. Toxic — handle with respiratory protection and full PPE.
