N-Ethyl-N-hydroxyethylaniline

N-Ethyl-N-hydroxyethylaniline (also known as 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol or N-EHEA, CAS 92-50-2, EC 202-160-9) is an electron-rich aromatic amino-alcohol and one of the most widely used coupling components in azo-dye chemistry.
Product Description

N-Ethyl-N-hydroxyethylaniline

High-Purity Azo Dye Coupling Component — Intermediate for Disperse, Cationic & Acid Dyes
CAS: 92-50-2         EC: 202-160-9         Assay: ≥ 99.0%

N-Ethyl-N-hydroxyethylaniline (2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol, N-EHEA) is an electron-rich aromatic amino-alcohol and one of the most widely used coupling components in azo-dye chemistry. The free para-position of its aniline ring couples readily with diazonium salts, while the N-ethyl and N-hydroxyethyl substituents tune solubility, brightness, and shade. Royalchem Spain supplies it at ≥ 99% purity as a pale-yellow to amber liquid, delivered from our Valladolid distribution hub by drum or IBC.

Technical Specifications (COA Data)
Assay (GC) ≥ 99.0%
Appearance Pale yellow to amber liquid
Impurities (other) ≤ 0.2%
Molecular Weight 165.23 g/mol

*Regulatory: EINECS-listed (EC 202-160-9); REACH pre-registered; manufactured under ISO 9001. As an aromatic-amine derivative it is classified as harmful and an irritant — handle with gloves, eye protection, and adequate ventilation, avoiding skin contact. Generally not classified as dangerous goods for transport. Always refer to the current SDS for the authoritative CLP classification.

Main Applications

Disperse Dye Coupler

Electron-rich coupling component for azo disperse dyes — the classic coupler for C.I. Disperse Red 1 and related shades such as Disperse Red 8, Disperse Red 13, and Disperse Orange 23 used on polyester and synthetic fibres.

Cationic & Acid Dye Intermediate

Upstream precursor to N-ethyl-N-(2-chloroethyl)aniline and onward to cationic (basic) dyes such as C.I. Basic Red 18, and a building block for acid and solvent dyes.

Fine-Chemical Building Block

Amino-alcohol reagent for azo and nonlinear-optical (NLO) chromophores and for custom organic synthesis; its hydroxyl and aromatic-amine groups allow further alkylation, acylation, and esterification.

Logistics & Packaging

Standard Packaging:

200 kg HDPE or steel drums, or IBC totes (approx. 1000 kg). Distributed by Royalchem Spain from our Valladolid hub. Shelf life 24 months in original sealed packaging.

Storage Conditions:

Store in tightly sealed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, protected from light and away from heat, oxidising agents, and strong acids. Nitrogen blanketing is recommended, as this aromatic amine darkens on prolonged exposure to air and light.
