N-Methylformanilide (N-methyl-N-phenylformamide, NMFA, CAS 93-61-8) is a formamide-type reagent best known as a Vilsmeier–Haack formylating agent. Combined with phosphoryl chloride it forms the Vilsmeier reagent that introduces formyl (–CHO) groups onto electron-rich aromatic and heterocyclic substrates, making it a key building block for the aromatic aldehydes used in dyes and pharmaceuticals. Royalchem Spain supplies it at ≥ 99% purity as a colourless to pale-yellow liquid, delivered from our Valladolid distribution hub by drum or IBC.

With phosphoryl chloride (POCl₃) it generates the Vilsmeier reagent for introducing formyl (–CHO) groups onto electron-rich aromatics and heterocycles, and also acts as a formylating reagent for organometallic substrates.
A formylation building block en route to aromatic aldehydes used in dyes, pigments, and active pharmaceutical ingredients, and a useful reagent in heterocycle synthesis.
Used as a swelling and dyeing aid for meta-aramid fibres, and as a reagent and solvent in advanced-materials and analytical research.
Standard Packaging:
200 kg HDPE or steel drums, or IBC totes (approx. 1000 kg). Distributed by Royalchem Spain from our Valladolid hub. Shelf life 24 months in original sealed packaging.
Storage Conditions:
Store in tightly sealed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from heat, ignition sources, oxidising agents, and moisture (keep dry for Vilsmeier chemistry). The product may solidify below about 10 °C; warm gently to re-liquefy before use.
